Matt Richardson returns to the Commonwealth stage for his Team England debut, having won individual and team sprint golds for Australia in Birmingham.
Born in Maidstone to English parents, Richardson moved to Australia when he was nine years old, initially taking an interest in gymnastics.
He turned his attention to cycling after suffering an elbow injury and quickly caught the eye, making his World Championship debut in 2019.
A first world title in 2022, in the team sprint, came after his Birmingham success, and Richardson went on to win three medals at Paris 2024, his second Olympics.
In the aftermath of those Games, he announced his decision to represent the country of his birth, making his first appearance for Great Britain at the 2025 Nations Cup.
A pair of World Championship silvers in 2025 were followed by two European golds in 2026, taking down Harrie Lavreysen in both, before his return to the Commonwealth stage.
