After a 12 year absence due to the outbreak of World War II, England picked up where they had left off to record a second successive runners-up spot.
Boxing proved to be a success for England as light heavyweight Don Scott, a silver medallist at the 1948 Olympics in London, won gold along with Terry Ratcliffe and Ronny Latham in the welterweight and lightweight categories.
