Patience has paid off for James Willstrop, who finally won his first ever Commonwealth singles gold medal today, beating New Zealand's Paul Coll in straight games.
Willstrop, 34, competing in his fourth Commonwealth Games stormed his way through to the men's single final and was visibly emotional upon winning that final point and hearing the crowd erupt to celebrate his well-deserved win.
The squash competition at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games has provided a host of shocks so far, with England's Nick Matthew and Laura Massaro failing to make their respective finals and Willstrop taking the chance to beat Coll, arguably considered the event's favourite.
Earlier in the day, Sarah-Jane Perry won silver in the women's singles event, in what is turning out to be a very successful Games for Team England in the squash events.
