Having missed out on the previous Commonwealth Games through concussion, Shona McCallin helped make Birmingham 2022 a fruitful one for Team England as she helped England women claim hockey gold.

The midfielder was introduced to hockey at the age of six by her mother and made it her sole focus at 14 having excelled in multiple sports throughout childhood.

The Olympic and European champion is heavily involved with charities such as Age UK, Marie Curie and the Mintridge Foundation.

Her time studying at Tilburg University in the Netherlands led to her becoming fluent in Dutch.

The Olympic and European champion loves nothing better than crunchy peanut butter, but has a phobia of quiet rooms.

It was ecstasy for the women’s team who took home the title for the first time in history.
