A record-breaker at Birmingham 2022, Chris Murray vowed to keep his Commonwealth Games gold a secret from girlfriend and fellow weightlifter Holly O'Shea.
Murray led from the halfway stage of the 81kg final , with his 144kg snatch and 181kg clear and jerk giving him a winning total and new Games record of 325kg.
Despite ending Team England's two-decade drought for a weightlifting gold, Murray's thoughts instantly turned to girlfriend O'Shea, who was Gibraltar's flagbearer at the opening ceremony and finished 10th in the women's 71kg category.
Murray won his first international medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games back in 2015, the first step on the road to excellence in a sport that he initially discovered by watching videos on YouTube.
Murray then studied at Loughborough University and it was there that his development really took off.
A significant landmark remains victory at the BUCS Championship in 2019 while two years later he won a third British Championship title, setting three British Under-23 records.
