Celia Quansah competed against Jessica Ennis-Hill as a promising young heptathlete but it’s rugby sevens in which she will make her Commonwealth Games bow.
Quansah, a School Games long jump champion in 2011, first took up the oval-ball sport at university and was part of the England Sevens set-up within six months, scoring nine tries in 12 appearances in 2019/20.
The 26-year-old was in the Team GB squad who narrowly missed out on bronze at Tokyo 2020 and, just as she did in the Japanese capital, will line up alongside her partner Meg Jones in Birmingham.
Raised in Twickenham, Quansah’s elder brother Joe represented London Scottish RFC while her sister Jenny was an international gymnast.
