Reigning champion of Britain’s Got Talent, Tokio Myers and The Voice star and Commonwealth silver medallist, Jazmin Sawyers, are supporting Team England in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games by releasing an exciting new version of Jerusalem – The Official Anthem of Commonwealth Games England , with npower and Syco records.
Pianist and music producer, Tokio, has given the Official Team England Anthem a modern revamp by incorporating his unique music style that led to his victory on the hit ITV show in June last year, but the modernisation doesn’t stop there, with npower also recruiting Jazmin Sawyers, who lends her powerful vocals to the track as she looks to support her fellow athletes ahead of their trip down under.
Recorded at London’s iconic Abbey Road studios, Jerusalem – The Official Anthem of Commonwealth Games England - is a modern twist on the iconic original track, encouraging fans across the country to show their support for Team England. The recording of the track was bolstered by a 54 piece orchestra and 10 person choir as well as athletes including Jack Laugher (Diving), Max Whitlock (Artistic Gymnastics), Ellie Robinson (para-swimming) and Lois Toulson (Diving) who all attended the recording with their families – their ultimate support network during the Games.
Jazmin, 23, won over the hearts of the nation in the Glasgow 2014 games when she took home a silver medal for her 6.5m leap and will be heading to the Gold Coast with the rest of Team England in advance of the official opening on 4th April 2018. Jazmin will be competing in the long jump from 11th April and hopes to make it the finals on 12th April, taking home another medal.
Ed Madden, Head of Marketing, said: ‘We’re proud to be an official sponsor of Team England and want to make sure that Team England feel the power of support from English fans, whilst they’re out on the Gold Coast. We thought that bringing a modern, relevant twist to the official Team England anthem was the perfect way to show our support.’
Jazmin said: ‘It’s always an honour representing Team England in the Games so it’s even more special to be singing vocals on Jerusalem – The Official Anthem of Commonwealth Games England , especially because I was able to record it in front of my teammates. It’s definitely going to push me harder in training and on the track.’
Tokio Myers said: ‘I feel honoured and privileged to be able to put my own spin on this iconic track. I brought my own interpretation to the production and had the support of Jazmin, the orchestra and the choir who all collectively sounded so powerful. We’re doing this to make sure our team feel supported from England as we know that is so important, especially being so far from home. We want them to know we’re proud of all of them and supporting them in their journey to bring home gold!’
Max Whitlock MBE, Team England gymnast: ‘It’s great that we now have the track and experience of the recording day to remind us of the support that we got in Glasgow. Having my family there with me at Abbey Road Studios was extra special as without their support I wouldn’t be where I am today.’
The track is available on iTunes and available to download on Spotify from 16th March 2018. The music video is available to view here.
