It wasn’t just in the gymnastics arena where rings were on display today, after Team England basketball player Jamell Anderson got down on one knee to propose to girlfriend Georgia Jones, following England’s 81-54 win over Cameroon.

Jones, also a member of Team England in the women’s basketball squad, stood courtside as the men’s team huddled and opened to reveal Anderson kneeling in the centre, ring in-hand.

Thankfully it was a yes from Jones to cap off a successful day for both basketball teams.

“We both worked so hard for this opportunity to be here,” said Anderson, reflecting on why he chose this moment to pop the question. “Basketball is a very big part of our relationship so it just made sense to do it here.”

“I had no idea,” said a shocked Jones. “I don’t even know what to say right now!

Earlier in the day England’s women saw off Mozambique 78-51 in their Pool B preliminary match with Jones registering 9 of the points.
