Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor continued their perfect start to their women’s pairs campaign with a nail-biting victory over Tonga.
The English pair fought back from a set down to force a tie-break and sealed the win with the final bowl.
It moves them to two wins from two in their pool, as they both target a medal at their fifth Games.
Honnor said: “It was really good, that was a tough game for us. We went down in the first set by quite a small margin, so we had to reset and go again in the second.
"To get it into a tie break, we fought for it, so it was really good. Amy set it up nicely on the final end, and good to get that bowl and get the win.”
Honnor had the responsibility of the final match-winning bowls, but Pharaoh had no doubt she would land the shot.
She said: “I knew she would get it, and it was just hoping that we got it right. And we got the right result.”
There was also early success for Sally-Ann Lewis-Wall and Ron Homer, alongside their directors Elizabeth Shipley and Sue Davies, as they beat New Zealand 2-0 in their opening match.
Lewis-Wall said: “It is always good to get a win under the belt but most importantly to have started bowling and get the show on the road.
“It has been an excellent atmosphere. We're going to return back to the hotel now, chill, get some food and reset. Then we can prepare like it's our first game of the event again. It's a fresh start.”
