Yemi Mary John heads to her first Commonwealth Games in the best form of her career.

John finished 2025 with a maiden appearance in the individual 400m at the World Athletics Championships but has stepped up a gear in 2026.

She posted a new personal best of 49.85s in Tokyo, becoming the youngest British woman to dip below 50 seconds.

John then delivered an excellent string of performances at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, as she helped Great Britain to mixed relay bronze.

Born to a Nigerian father and Italian mother, she announced her prodigious talent with a brilliant gold at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships and another at the European U23 Championships in 2023.

The senior World Championship in 2023 brought two medals, in the 4x400m relay and mixed relay, and John was also part of an impressive bronze medal for Team GB in the same event at Paris 2024.

After competing in the USA with USC Trojans, she returned to training in London, and captured the British Indoor Championships title in 2026, before her massive personal best in Tokyo.
