Syerus Eslami

Syerus Eslami will go to Birmingham to compete in his second Commonwealth Games having won bronze in the men’s freestyle 86kg wrestling in Gold Coast in 2018. 

From a rich wrestling family, Eslami’s grandfather was an Olympian while his uncle also competed for Great Britain, with his dad a British schools champion. 

To motivate himself, Eslami has a notebook in which he writes down every single day that he will be the best in the world and become Olympic champion. 

Away from wrestling, Eslami works as a thermal insulation engineer and is doing an apprenticeship to become fully qualified.

Freestyle wrestling was an event contested at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where Team England secured three bronze medals, won by Georgina Nelthorpe, Syerus Eslami and Charlie Bowling and placed third on the medal table.
