Sian Rainsley was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2018 and doctors said it was impossible for her to continue as an elite athlete.

But nothing has stopped her claiming several U23 European medals, including a mixed relay gold in 2017.

She secured a bronze at the 2021 Europe Triathlon Championships, reaching a career high of fourth on the World Triathlon Championship Series rankings this year.

Her partner and international triathlete Tom Bishop has been a willing training partner in the build-up to her Commonwealth Games debut this summer.

Kick-starting the Team England medal count on the opening day, Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown delivered Team England a Gold and Silver apiece, before bookending a dominant Mixed Relay title winning team on Sunday 31st July alongside Sophie Coldwell and Sam Dickinson to a rapturous support around Sutton Park.
