Sam Watson capped a magical 2022 with a surprise Commonwealth Games appearance.

The Leeds-born star stepped in to replace Oldham’s Matt Walls in the men's road race just days prior to the event following an injury Walls sustained earlier in the Games.

Despite being only 20 years of age, Watson rose to the big occasion and came within just two seconds of a top-10 finish.

Earlier that same summer he became British National Road Race under-23 champion, a crown he successfully retained this year, and has subsequently added a flurry of other titles to his impressive CV.

Cycling
Cycling at the Commonwealth Games in the past has taken place across three different disciplines; Track Cycling, Road Cycling and Mountain Bike.
