Proud Yorkshireman Sam Dickinson pounded the streets of his native Leeds before leading Team England to Commonwealth Games gold.
Dickinson returned home with a gold from his first major Games after a stunning triumph in the mixed relay event alongside Alex Yee, Sophie Coldwell and Georgia Taylor-Brown.
That capped a superb summer for Dickinson, who finished 19th in the individual event after playing his part in a brilliant silver mixed relay medal at Montreal’s World Triathlon Championship Series in June 2022, which secured Great Britain a place at the Paris Olympics.
A graduate of Leeds University, Dickinson comes from a sporty family, with his father captaining the combined services water polo team and his mother a county level gymnast.
Naturally, then, he and his brother Tom were immersed in sport from an early age, playing county level hockey and backyard basketball.
A raft of age group medals followed, including a silver at the U23 ITU World Championships in 2018 and two senior European Cup golds the following year.
