Sam Atkin had a breakthrough year in 2020 and transformed his fortunes from athletics circuit pacemaker to the fourth quickest UK male over 10,000m.
That form saw him earn a spot on Team GB’s Olympic squad and though his maiden major tournament was cruelly cut short by injury, it will serve as quality experience for his first Commonwealth Games.
The Lincolnshire long-distance runner was a talented footballer and tennis player in his youth before concentrating on athletics full-time.
