Gold Coast 2018 was Peter McGrail's Commonwealth Games debut where won gold in the men's boxing bantam (56kg) category. 

In March 2017, Peter won silver at the U22 European Championships and in June, he went one better when he became the first boxers from Liverpool to win the European Championship. He finished the year with a bronze medal at the World Championships in Hamburg.
