Mikey Jones captured the hearts of a nation by winning Paralympic gold at Rio 2016 and dedicating it to his father, who passed away just before the Games.

Shoulder injuries threatened to disrupt his progress in the years that followed, but in 2018 he swiftly recovered from surgery to take European gold in Dublin in the S7 400m freestyle.

He also recovered from three major operations in 2012 having attempted to qualify for London 2012.

Jones missed out on medals at his home World Championships in 2019 and was unable to defend his Paralympic title in Tokyo, so will take to the Commonwealth stage in Birmingham with a point to prove.

Swimming and Para-Swimming
Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
