Michael Fryer debuts for Team England in Glasgow, looking to continue strong momentum after a breakout Grand Slam run.
Coached by Laurie Rush and training out of Rush Judo, Fryer first claimed a first continental medal at the 2022 Oceania Open in Perth. Two more bronze medals followed, two years later, in the European Cup and European Open - before claiming the British title last year in Warwick.
Fryer ended his 2025 season in style, with a gold medal in the Sarajevo European Open - continuing his momentum in the Paris Grand Slam at the start of the 2026 campaign where he made the final eight in the under-66 kilograms field.
The judoka also claimed a bronze at the Benidorm European Open in 2025.
When he has time outside training and competition, Fryer is known to pick up his fishing rod and go angling.
