Max Litchfield

Swimming

Max Litchfield went viral with his trick-shot antics to combat the boredom of self-isolation over Christmas 2021, but he will be hoping to provide excitement in the pool at the Commonwealth Games.

The Yorkshireman came so close to an Olympic medal with Team GB at Rio 2016, finishing fourth in the 400m Individual Medley.

Agonisingly, Litchfield - whose dad Peter was a professional goalkeeper - repeated the trick in Tokyo, finishing joint fourth in the same event.

Litchfield was named British Universities & Colleges Sport Sportsman of the Year for 2016 while studying physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University from 2013 to 2018.

He was denied the chance to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 after being forced to withdraw late on with a shoulder injury but now gets the chance to excel on home soil.

Three Olympic champions are among the first athletes to be included in Team England’s Swimming team for the home Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer.
