Matthew Stonier has only just completed his second-year exams at Loughborough and the middle-distance runner is already mixing it with the best.  

Early in 2022, the then 20-year-old student from Sturry shocked the field to win the Nike Emsley Carr Mile in a time of 3:54.89, making his Diamond League debut a week later.  

He came eighth in Birmingham and a couple of weeks later he improved his 1500m personal best to 3:35.92. 

Stonier backed that up with another strong showing at the Commonwealth Games, with his time of 3:32.50 earning him a seventh place finish in the second city.
