Paralympic bronze and multiple world medallist Matthew Robertson has charted a remarkable rise throughout his career and is now set to make his Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2026.
Just four years ago the para cyclist was hit by a car, setting him back in his training as he recovered but Robertson has risen again, returning with a bronze at the Track World Championship in Rio de Janeiro in the men’s omnium.
Robertson was selected for his Paralympic debut that same year, and won individual pursuit bronze in Paris, before he won road race silver and time trial bronze at the Road World Championships.
Robertson followed that up with another global bronze in the scratch race in 2025.
Robertson has hemiplegia in the right side of his body, meaning he is partially paralysed on his right side which causes balance issues and reduced power from the right side.
Robertson also has epilepsy and has spoken openly about the impact that has on him as an athlete.
