West Midlander Matthew Hudson-Smith won silver at Birmingham in the 400m, just a stone's throw away from home.

The Wolverhampton-born runner was part of the winning 4x400m relay team in 2014, and later added individual European gold in 2018.

Hudson-Smith entered the Games in good shape, breaking the 25-year-old British 400m record with a new personal best of 44.35 seconds, as well as claiming bronze in the 2022 World Championships.

He would back up his silver from Birmingham with gold in both the 400m and 4x400m in the European Championships before upgrading his world bronze for silver at Budapest 2023.
