Luke Turley put his faith in the expert guidance of coaching guru Dave McNulty in his successful bid at Birmingham 2022.

Based at the Bath National Centre, the freestyle specialist is hoping to follow in the footsteps of McNulty-coached stars like Tom Dean, James Guy and Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.

Turley qualified for the 1500m freestyle and came second behind Daniel Jervis in the 400m freestyle at the 2022 British Swimming Championships, which was enough to send him to a Commonwealth debut on home soil.

The 23-year-old could not quite quite believe he had made the Commonwealth Games and went one step further, winning bronze in the 1500m freestyle event.

Turley put it all down to the advice of coach McNulty who reminded him that he is "a hitter not a tripper".

Swimming and Para-Swimming
Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
