In another life, Louie Hinchliffe would have been a golfer, but he’s doing a pretty decent job as a sprinter in this one.
A single-figure handicap was not enough for him to choose golf over sprinting at age 17.
Since then, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise in athletics, going to the Paris 2024 Olympics in his first year of taking athletics seriously.
That came after moving to Texas to train under nine-time Olympic champion Carl Lewis at the University of Houston.
There, he claimed the NCAA 100m title, becoming the first European to win the title, and the sixth-fastest Brit of all time with a time of 9.95s.
He was then crowned British champion earning him a place at Paris 2024, where he reached the 100m finals and claimed bronze in the men’s 4x100m relay.
His 2025 season was disrupted by injury, and he also dealt with the passing of his father, before competing in the 4x100m relay at the World Championships.
Hinchliffe returned to Carl Lewis’ coaching group, re-enrolling in university too, at the beginning of 2026 and is now preparing for a debut Commonwealth Games.
