Lewis Williams lived up to his billing by taking home Commonwealth gold at Birmingham 2022.

The heavyweight has been tipped as the ‘the future of heavyweight boxing' and did plenty to retain that title with victory over Samoa's Ato Leau Plodzicki-Faoagali.

It was an emotional win for the local hero, with the Leamington-born boxer vowing to hang the medal round the neck of his dad Bob, who had been in hospital before the Games.

The 6ft 6in star claimed his first English crown in 2018 and has since sparred with Anthony Joshua and Frazer Clarke before winning bronze on major debut at May’s European Championships

Boxing
Team England brought 14 boxers to Birmingham, with the group consisting of 8 men and 6 women.
