Laviai Nielsen is set for her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow after missing out four years ago in Birmingham.

The twin sister of fellow Team England athlete Lina, Laviai discovered in 2021 that she was suffering from multiple sclerosis, with Lina having been diagnosed at 17.

It did not stop her from making her Olympic debut in Tokyo, flying out just two days after her diagnosis, while Nielsen also won two Olympic bronze medals in Paris in 2024, as part of the women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relays.

In 2026, she revealed that she had suffered burnout after her Olympic experience in the French capital, taking a three-month break from the sport.

But Nielsen has returned to the track and is now eyeing relay gold in her maiden appearance for Team England.

Athletics and Para-Athletics
In front of a 30,000 strong crowd at the newly refurbished Alexander Stadium, Team England picked up a host of medals at Birmingham 2022.
