Jay Lelliott has led an inspirational life up to this point as he prepares for a home Commonwealth Games.

In 2007, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged 12 and underwent surgery, just one year after starting to swim competitively after being inspired by Olympic great Michael Phelps.

Lelliott, 27, was part of the 2012 Summer Olympics torch relay, and two years later he won bronze in the 2014 European Championships in Berlin.

Lelliott finished fourth in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay Final at Glasgow 2014 and sixth in the 1500m final.

Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
