One of England's all-time great squash players, James Willstrop rolled back the years to claim his second Commonwealth crown in Birmingham.

In an all-England final, Willstrop and playing partner Declan James defeated Daryl Selby and Adrian Waller 11-3 7-11 11-9 to bag gold and bragging rights.

Willstrop, who rose to national acclaim in 2005 with a triumph at the World Team Championships in Islamabad, is known as ‘The Marksman’ after his accurate shot placement.

He represented Team England for the fifth time on the Gold Coast and won gold in the men's squash singles and bronze in the men's doubles.

Willstrop's Team England debut was at the first Commonwealth Youth Games in Edinburgh in 2000. He then went on to win silver at Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 and then silver and bronze at Glasgow 2014.

The stand-out story from the glass courts at the University of Birmingham was undoubtedly that of Gina Kennedy who, on her Games debut, became the first English woman to win the Women’s Singles title.
