Jamal Petgrave heads to Glasgow 2026 as reigning Commonwealth champion, after taking home gold in the men’s -90kg at Birmingham 2022.
The middleweight will aim to defend his title, which he won with a ‘Golden Score’ triumph over Remi Feuillet of Mauritius.
Petgrave is a four-time British champion, having won the middleweight title at the British Judo Championships in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2024.
In 2025, he won bronze at both the European Cup in Podgorica and the European Open in Prague.
The experienced judoka grew up in Carshalton and trained at Westcroft Judo Club, before moving to Walsall to train at the British Judo National Training Centre.
After a few consecutive losses at the end of 2025 and the start of 2026, Petgrave will hope to bounce back on the Commonwealth stage and defend his Birmingham pursuits.
