Incident, injury and impressive results on the road all contributed to a whirlwind debut pro season for Jake Stewart, who rides for French team Groupama-FDJ.
A second-place finish at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was followed by a clash with Nacer Bouhanni in the final of Pays de la Loire, resulting in a fractured left hand as he missed the Tour of Flanders.
Stewart went on to record top-10 finishes on stages of the Tour de Wallonie and the Tour of Poland but he has since revealed he has been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
The lifelong condition, which causes inflammation in the intestines, hampered Stewart’s start to 2022 and he went onto finish 62nd in the men's road race in Birmingham.
He achieved his best finish at a Grand Tour event in 2023, placing inside the top 100 riders at the Giro d'Italia.
