Imogen Clark defied the odds to become a Commonwealth Games silver medallist at Birmingham 2022.
Clark was diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy aged 14, having her first seizure whilst in the pool, which led to doctors and her mother to ask her to put a halt on her swimming ambitions.
Event managers had to be quickly informed by Imogen’s team to avoid the normal flashing cameras and dark lights, when she took her place on the podium.
Clark won 50m silver at the 2018 European Championships, just four years after her initial diagnosis, and further podiums would follow, with the national record holder clinching 50m silver in Birmingham behind Commonwealth record holder Lara van Niekerk, before following that up with European bronze in Rome later that summer.
She holds the top 15 times in British women’s 50m breaststroke history, including times from 2018 to 2023.
