Imogen Clark defied the odds to become a Commonwealth Games silver medallist at Birmingham 2022.

Clark was diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy aged 14, having her first seizure whilst in the pool, which led to doctors and her mother to ask her to put a halt on her swimming ambitions.

Event managers had to be quickly informed by Imogen’s team to avoid the normal flashing cameras and dark lights, when she took her place on the podium.

Clark won 50m silver at the 2018 European Championships, just four years after her initial diagnosis, and has starred in the short-course pool at the International Swimming League.

And further podiums would follow, with the national record holder clinching 50m silver in Birmingham behind Commonwealth record holder Lara van Niekerk, before following that up with European bronze in Rome later that summer.

Tom Dean aka “The SubmaDean” followed up his double Olympic triumph at Tokyo 2020 by making history in Birmingham, becoming the first Home Nations athlete to win seven medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
