A life-changing diagnosis was the springboard for Hetty Bartlett’s success and the 31-year-old is set for her Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.
The athlete from Grundisburgh, who was born with a rare blood disease and a hole in her heart, was advised by her long jump coach to be checked for cerebral palsy two years ago, which she was then diagnosed with down her right side.
Bartlett says she has been re-energised since and qualified for her first Paralympics at Tokyo 2020. A sprinter and long jumper, she has excelled at the Special Olympics and won 200m gold in 2019.
