Gemma Richardson was not meant to compete at Birmingham 2022, never mind take home a silver medal.
The Scunthorpe boxer suffered an elbow injury at the start of the year, putting her Commonwealth hopes in doubt, only returning to sparring two months before taking to the ring.
But Richardson bounced back in style, guaranteeing herself a medal on her 21st birthday with quarter-final victory before battling her way to a showdown against world champion Amy Broadhurst.
Broadhurst was ultimately too strong on the day, but there was plenty of positives for Richardson, who was Youth World Championship gold medallist in 2018, as well as a two-time European Youth champion - the second of those in Sofia in 2019 coming having trained one-handed in the build-up due to suffering a tear in her right hand.
