Fliss Pickard’s first experience of table tennis came as a volunteer, aged 14, near her Lancashire home.

Her natural ability was obvious from the get-go and she duly made her international debut in 2011.

Pickard was one of three English players to feature in para table tennis’s Commonwealth debut in 2018, beaten in the singles bronze medal match and narrowly missing out on a medal, but she won bronze in the women's class 6 singles at the World Championships later that year.
