A childhood in the Malvern Hills proved the perfect way for Evie Richards to hone her mountain biking craft and she has gone on to hit trailblazing heights, winning gold in the cross-country at Birmingham 2022.
Richards' recovered from Covid and back issues in the build-up to the Birmingham Games to storm to gold and add a second Commonwealth medal to her collection.
The 2021 World Championships catapulted Richards into the history books as she became the first British rider – male or female – to take gold, winning the cross-country and following up with short-track silver.
Richards had already proven her credentials on the global stage with two Under-23 World Championship golds, in 2016 and 2018, the latter coming in the same year as she took silver on her Commonwealth Games debut.
A Red Bull athlete, Richards balanced hockey with cycling growing up before focusing on the latter from the age of 16 – and gives regular updates on her globetrotting exploits to an Instagram following of more than 200,000.
