Emily Newnham has made her mark as one of brightest 400m hurdles prospects Britain has produced in a while, and is now looking to make the next step in Glasgow.
A former English Schools champion, she made her Diamond League debut in 2023 and a year later earned selection for both the World Relays and the European Championships in Rome, the former while still a teenager.
She then enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2025, winning two medals at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, silver in the women’s 4x400m relay in a new British indoor record, and bronze in the mixed 4x400m.
That summer, Newnham took double gold at the European U23 Championships in Bergen, getting to within five hundredths of Sally Gunnell’s British U23 record on her way to winning the individual 400m hurdles.
And following a World Championship debut at the end of the year, qualifying for the semi-finals, she is now set for her Team England bow.
