Ellis Trowbridge knows how to get the party started at international competitions.
He was the first winner from any home nation at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, triumphing in his opening bout in the 55kg division.
He beat Ardit Murja of Albania unanimously in the preliminaries before suffering the same fate in the Round of 32 at the hands of Rui Yamaguchi of Japan.
Having made his debut in 2019, Trowbridge has an overall amateur record of 25 wins and 17 losses.
He enjoyed sustained success in the Haringey Box Cup, a prestigious amateur tournament, winning three years in a row, each time in a different weight category.
Now, he is set to compete in his debut Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Trowbridge boasts impressive boxing heritage; his dad is three-weight world champion Duke McKenzie and his uncle, Clinton McKenzie, represented Team GB at the 1976 Olympics.
