The experienced Elliot Giles will be competing at his third Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but this time it looks different as the Commonwealth Mile makes its return to the athletics programme.
The mile is a distance he has had plenty of success in the past, having set a new road world record of 3:51.3 in Dusseldorf in September 2024.
Giles’ previous Games experience saw him lose out in the heats in the 800m at Gold Coast 2018 before finishing ninth in the final of the 1500m with a new lifetime best while competing in his home city at Birmingham 2022.
He has competed at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games – reaching the 800m semi-finals in both – and has run at four World Championships.
A four-time British champion, Giles’ most notable result on the international stage was when he claimed a bronze medal in the 800m at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam.
