A prolific junior race walker, Callum Wilkinson’s gold in the World U20 Championships in Poland in 2016 made him Britain’s first global champion in a walking event for 52 years.

The following year at the senior World Championships, Wilkinson finished 41st in the same event before taking seventh on his Team England debut on the Gold Coast and then becoming a double British champion when he defended his 5,000m title at the 2020 British Athletics Championships.

Wilkinson made his Olympic bow at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, recording a top-10 finish as his time of 1:22:38 was enough to take tenth place.

He finished ahead of the legendary Tom Bosworth at Birmingham 2022, but his season best of 39:06.28 was not quite enough for a podium finish as he finished fourth on home soil.
