Commonwealth Appearances

Seven years after competing at national level for the first time, hospital nurse Alison Yearling went for a second tilt at the Commonwealth Games.

Yearling was diagnosed with a rare genetic eye condition - Stargardt’s Disease - in her 20s and struggled to come to terms with the diagnosis for five years.

A love of bowls took hold at the perfect time thanks to Plymouth VI Bowls Club and in 2016 she scooped the B3 Ladies national title, going on to appear at the Gold Coast 2018.

And when 2022 came around, she picked up bronze on home soilin the Para mixed pairs B2/3 event alongside Chris Turnbull.

Bowls and Para Bowls
It was a hugely successful campaign at Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park and some thrilling games saw Team England leave the plush lawn with six medals including two gold, two silver and two bronze.
