Emerging from retirement, Alison Waters won two silvers in the doubles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

More than 20 years since she made her professional debut, the former world No.3 announced her retirement from the sport in December 2021.

But the pull of Birmingham was too strong and she came back for a fifth and final Games to play alongside doubles partners Adrian Waller and Sarah-Jane Perry

Waters’ mother, a Level 2 coach, noticed her natural flair and she first played competitive aged six, winning the British under-12 title aged nine.

She bettered her best form at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won mixed doubles silver with Peter Barker and doubles bronze alongside Emma Beddoes.

The stand-out story from the glass courts at the University of Birmingham was undoubtedly that of Gina Kennedy who, on her Games debut, became the first English woman to win the Women’s Singles title.
