This weekend, Team England will bring the spirit of the Commonwealth Games to communities across the country as the National Sports Weekend takes place at GLL operated Better leisure centres nationwide.
On the 18th and 19th July, Better leisure centres will offer hundreds of free and low-cost sessions across England. With presenting partner Ehrmann, people of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to get active, discover a new sport and experience some of the sports Team England athletes will compete in at Glasgow 2026.
To mark the occasion, Team England President Dame Laura Kenny stepped out of her comfort zone and into a series of unfamiliar sports, teaming up with Team England athletes and coaches to experience basketball, swimming and athletics firsthand.

From taking on a swimming lesson with Team England's Ed Mildred to learning the art of the jump shot from Birmingham 2022 gold medallist and England captain Jamell Anderson, Dame Laura Kenny embraced the opportunity to try something new.
Alongside Team England cyclist Josie Knight, she showed that anyone can get on a bike and enjoy cycling, while a session with England Athletics coach Alex Wort proved that stepping outside your comfort zone can be the first step towards discovering a new passion. Together, the experiences reflect the spirit of National Sports Weekend celebrating the idea that sport is for everyone and encourages people to discover a new activity in their local community.
The National Sports Weekend will take place across more than 280 Better and GLL-operated leisure centres, showcasing the sports that will feature at Glasgow 2026 and helping people build a connection with Team England ahead of the summer's Commonwealth Games.
Team England athletes and sporting partners will also be supporting activities throughout the weekend, bringing the excitement of elite sport directly into local communities and inspiring the next generation to get involved.
