The kit that Team England will wear at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has today been officially unveiled in Manchester.

Lancashire based sportswear company, Kukri, the Official Kit Supplier to Team England has produced a stunning range of kit for the 600 plus athletes and staff who will represent England this summer.

Commonwealth Games England and Kukri have worked closely with athletes over the last year to develop the range. The athletes identified the England Lion as a key symbol of the team along with the attributes of Strength, Pride, Commitment and Courage and every piece of the kit will symbolise this.

Kukri will supply all of Team England’s delegation wear, competition kit and formal wear  - providing a truly uniform and cohesive look for athletes and officials alike – a real first for Team England. Alongside the traditional red and white colours of the St George’s Cross flag, Kukri, at the request of athletes, has introduced a third colour – maroon - a new rich, red alternative synonymous with English heritage.

Additionally Arena has been appointed as Official Aquatics Wear Supplier and they will provide competition swimwear for both swimming and diving which will reflect a similar look and feel as the Kukri kit providing Team England with a single spirit across 17 sports. An aquatics group of athletes were involved in the development of the arena kit.

Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson said: “Unveiling our kit is a unique moment for Team England on our journey to Glasgow 2014 and this is a very exciting day for us.

“The kit that Kukri and Arena have produced embodies what we represent as a Team and I am very proud that the athletes have been at the heart of the design of this kit. From selection of Kukri, to the scope of what kit was in their bag to the design itself, our athletes have led the way. We may be 17 sports, but we are united as a single spirit and our Team England kit is a true representation of that.”

Commenting on the kit reveal, Kukri Founder and Group Managing Director, Phil Morris, said: “We were incredibly proud back in April 2013 when we were informed by Commonwealth Games England that we had been chosen by the athletes as the Official Kit Supplier to Team England.

Phil adds: “Kukri has a unique ability to produce clothing for 76 sports so when CGE asked us to produce kit for their 17 sports for Glasgow 2014 we were delighted to accept the challenge.

Today is a culmination of a lot of hard work by the team with a huge amount of input from athletes about what they did and didn’t want and we are very proud that Team England will take to the world stage in Glasgow looking fantastic and relevant for each of their individual sports while clearly being part of the family which is Team England.”

Replica ranges of both Kukri and Arena kit will be on sale to the general public via www.kukrisports.com, this is another first for Team England.

The kit reveal took place on The Orient’s main stage at the Intu Trafford Centre where English athletes, including Kukri athlete Ambassadors, paraded alongside professional catwalk models as the Team England kit was revealed in front of the attending VIPs and media for the very first time.
