Experience will meet emerging talent when Team England take to the gymnastics stage at Glasgow 2026, with a 10-athlete squad now officially confirmed for this summer’s Commonwealth Games.

The team features one of the sport’s most recognisable names in Max Whitlock, who returns to the Commonwealth stage for the fourth time in his career.

For Whitlock, Glasgow holds special memories. It was there in 2014 where he claimed three gold medals and cemented himself as one of England’s greatest gymnasts.

Now a 10-time Commonwealth medallist, the 33-year-old returns with valuable experience as part of a men’s team packed with emerging talent.

Joining Whitlock is Luke Whitehouse, who heads to Glasgow in strong form after establishing himself among the world’s best on floor, adding World Championship silver to an impressive collection that already includes four European titles.

Also selected are European team bronze medallists Adam Tobin and Josh Nathan, both set for their first Commonwealth Games appearances.

Alex Yolshin-Cash completes the men’s squad after a standout breakthrough season, with his rise highlighted by a fifth-place finish on pommel horse at his debut World Championships.

On the women’s side, Taeja James returns to Team England for her second Commonwealth Games appearance after first competing at Gold Coast 2018, where she helped England claim team silver as a teenager.

After stepping away from gymnastics for five years, James’ return to elite competition has been one of the sport’s standout comeback stories.

She is joined by Olympian Abi Martin, who arrives in Glasgow after winning floor bronze at the World Championships and continuing her rise on the international stage.

British beam champion Alia Leat and British all-around silver medallist Ruby Stacey also earn selection for their maiden Commonwealth Games.

Rounding out the women’s team is 17-year-old Shantae-Eve Amankwaah, the youngest English gymnast selected for Glasgow 2026.

Team England Chef de Mission Jonathon Riall said: “Gymnastics has been one of Team England's most successful sports in recent years and it is brilliant to be able to announce our squad for Glasgow 2026.

“The squad contains a number of exciting new faces, for whom this is their first senior multi-sport Games, and I can't wait to see them shine on the big stage for Team England alongside Olympic and world medallists.”

Gymnastics team leader Steven Shuttlewood added: “This is a genuinely exciting team we are sending to Glasgow. There is a blend of experienced gymnasts, with some who have been to the Olympics, and others who will be attending their first multi-sport Games.”

“The depth of talent within this group is even reflected in the reserve gymnasts, who have one of the toughest jobs, but will be ready if needed.”
