Fran Halsall won England’s first gold medal at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women’s 50m butterfly followed immediately by world champion Liam Tancock who set a new Commonweath Games record to win the men’s 50m backstroke in 24.62.
Halsall, who goes in the women’s 100m freestyle semi-final later this evening, clocked 26.24 to take the title and put England on the gold medal board.
Kate Haywood also won a bronze in the women’s 50m breaststroke final, in 31.17.
