Team England has announced that Sam Watson will be joining the line-up for Sunday’s Men’s Road Race. The 20-year-old will step in to replace Oldham’s Matt Walls, who has had to withdraw from the race to recover from a crash in the Men’s Scratch Race qualifiers at the Lee Valley VeloPark earlier in the Games.

Leeds-born Watson, who won the under-23 edition of the Gent-Wevelgem road race earlier in the year, will be joining a strong Team England squad which includes with Connor Swift, Ben Turner, Jake Stewart and Fred Wright, who took the silver medal in Thursday’s Men’s Time Trial.

Both the men’s and women’s road races will start and finish in Warwick’s St Nicholas Park, with riders heading through Leamington Spa and Hampton Hill, before crossing the River Avon with views of Warwick Castle.

The men will race for 160km over the course of 10 laps, while women will complete the course seven times, wracking up 112 kilometres. Spectators will be able to line the race route to get in on the action and full details can be found here.
