In celebration of St George's Day, Commonwealth Games England today launched the 'We are England' Photography Exhibition at the SW1 Gallery, London. The exhibition kicked off with a champagne media breakfast attended by both current and former England athletes along with a selection of well known English faces.
The exhibition showcases selected and winning imagery from 'We are England' a photography competition aimed at finding the ultimate photographs that best represent England in all of its glory. The competition celebrates everything about England and 'Englishness' ahead of the Commonwealth Games that take place later this year in Delhi and will run until Thursday 29 April. Entrance is free.
Commonwealth Games England board member, Lawrence Dallaglio OBE commented "The 'We are England' Photography Competition has proved a great way to showcase just what England means to the public, and it's fantastic to be able to display some of the entries at this special exhibition.
We should be very proud of our nation, and the support this competition has received will hopefully be the start of things to come as the England team head to Delhi in October for a successful 2010 Commonwealth Games".
England will be sending their largest ever team to an overseas Games, with almost 400 athletes making the trip as they hope to make the Games one of their most successful ever.
The event was attended by Commonwealth Games England athletes and representatives including:
Ben Fogle - TV Presenter and adventurer
Ben Hawes - England hockey
Simon Mantell - England hockey
Ed Clancy - World Champion track cyclist
