England’s silver medal tally at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi has swollen to 60 rather than 59 after the news that Nigerian runner Folashade Abugan, a member of her country’s 4 x 400m relay team, had tested positive for a banned substance.

The resulting disqualification means that England’s Kelly Massey, Victoria Barr, Meghan Beesley and Nadine Okyere have been upgraded from bronze to silver and Canada have stepped up into bronze.

Commonwealth Games Federation officials, in announcing the news, said they would soon “facilitate the collection and redistribution of medals directly” to the relevant countries.

England’s 142-strong final medal tally from the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games now reads: 37 golds, 60 silvers and 45 bronzes -  with the silvers moving to 60 from 59 and the bronzes moving down to 45 from 46.
