Mia Walker has been called up to Team England’s Athletics squad for the upcoming Trinbago Commonwealth Youth Games to compete in the 400m Hurdles.
15-year-old Mia is from Bebington and trains at Wirral Athletics Club. Mia replaces Arabella Wilson who has unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.
Athletics Team Leader Scott Grace said: “This is so disappointing to hear, especially for Arabella. She has had such a great season, was one of the favourites going into the games and has been an important part of the team. From everyone at Team England and England Athletics, including all her teammates, we wish her a speedy recovery”.
According to the Commonwealth Games Federation’s Late Athlete Replacement Policy, Team England is only able to explore like for like (same event and gender) replacements for any athlete who withdraws from the team at this stage. An England Athletics selection panel nominated Mia following a strong season, recently medalling at the SIAB International and she heads into the competition ranked 4th.
