Commonwealth Games England teams-up with STA Travel in preparation for the Gold Coast
Commonwealth Games England has announced that STA Travel has become Team England’s first Official Travel Partner.
Founded in Australia, the location for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, STA Travel has been providing adventurous travel for over 35 years and is today recognisedas the largest student and youth travel specialist.
STA Travel will supply flights to Team England’s selection of athletes and support staff for the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa in September, St Lucia in 2017, and the Gold Coast Games in 2018.
Nick Evans, Head of Commercial at Commonwealth Games England said, “Announcing CGE’s first ever Official Travel Partner is very exciting. We are building a commercial family of partners that we hope will grow with us on the journey to the Gold Coast. STA is an experienced, dynamic company and a great fit with Team England.”
Ian Metcalfe, Chairman of Commonwealth Games England said, “We are really pleased to welcome STA Travel as an Official Partner. Although the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow seem to have been only a short while ago, we are only 100 days away from the Youth Games in Samoa. STA’s support of CGE’s operational staff is fundamental to facilitating convenient transport for the athletes, particularly over the logistically challenging journey to Samoa.
“The CGE team is already looking ahead to the 2018 Games to ensure that Team England is fully prepared and ready to compete on the international stage again. It will be great to have STA’s support during the three year journey to the Gold Coast.”
STA Travel is continuously developing its group sports travel offering for schools, colleges and universities. STA Travel UK and US managing director Glen Mintrim said: “We are delighted to be working with Team England on this partnership. Young people being actively engaged in sport is very important and working with Team England to promote youth sport at such a high level is a great honour. STA Travel Sport is a growing part of our business and one we hope will go from strength to strength thanks to this three-year deal."
